eXPECTED OUTCOMES

Below are the outcomes I wanted to fulfill while taking this course:

  1. Use appropriate terminology to communicate with marketing specialists and others about marketing concepts- this requirement was fulfilled when constructing my marketing plan and practicum presentation.  It was also relevant in my written assignments and quizzes. I had to understand terminology and communicate terminology in all assignments this semester.
  2. Understand more clearly how marketing affects you as a consumer and how you influence marketing practices- I fulfilled this requirement by learning about advertising in the red bull assignment as well as in understanding pricing strategies.  These concepts were also demonstrated in my marketing plan and practicum presentation because I had to understand how to target a market.  I also had to understand costs and how they affect the price we set for a good which ultimately affects a consumer.
  3. Identify and interpret changes in the environment which affect marketing activities- I fulfilled this requirement while learning about sustainability in marketing.  I learned how businesses try to make changes in order to produce a healthier environment. This goes hand in hand with the triple bottom line.
  4. Understand the cost and benefits of marketing on society and on those involved in the market process- I fulfilled this requirement by learning about pricing strategies.  I also learned about development of products and the costs associated with the product.  This was showcased in my marketing plan by understanding long term benefits of our program as well as comparing expenses to revenues.
  5. Understand how marketing interacts with and is interdependent with other functional areas within a company- This was fulfilled by learning about the wide range of marketing concepts from advertising to product mix. Marketing plays a vital role in promoting the product which affects business success, however it is a separate entity.
  6. describe the roles and contribution that marketing plays in organizations and society-  Marketing helps businesses promote products.  This was showcased in my marketing plan while promoting a brand new product.  In addition, marketing affects society by implementing sustainable practices and positioning products for the consumers to purchase.
  7. Develop a good understanding of current marketing concepts, strategies and techniques- This was fulfilled by learning about all of the different concepts and then preforming well on quizzes that show I understood the information.  This was also used in discussing points in my practicum presentation and market plan.  I has to have a solid understanding while putting together this blog as well, so people could also understand the concepts.
  8. Understand how marketing decisions are made- I fulfilled this requirement by learning about product development, buyer behavior, and analyzing the market.  This was present in my market plan where my group had to make decisions to promote, sell, and develop a product.
  9. Know how organizations search for new marketing opportunities and select target markets- I understand how organizations find target markets because of the tab I created on my blog.  I also learned how to target markets through creating my practicum presentation and marketing plan.
  10. Explain how the marketing mix elements are blended into a cohesive marketing program- I learned about the marketing mix through videos and readings.  The knowledge allowed my to apply the concept to my practicum presentation and market plan.
  11. Develop an understanding of the ethical and global issues facing people working in the marketing function- I understand ethical issues because of learning about sustainability.  I also understand the ethical responsibility of producing quality products and advertising them correctly.  In addition, pricing is an ethical role because a company a cannot charge a lower price than a competitor to push them out of the market.
